Looking for Stimulus Check 2? Anything that makes more than Those40,000 can't get it

While the second round of the stimulus package has been in limbo for weeks as the Senate deliberates, Senator Mitch McConnell said Monday that the second round of benefits may be forthcoming. However, individual payments may be more limited than expected. [According to NBC News, Senator McConnell said publicly on July 6 that he will submit his own version of the stimulus package when the Senate returns from recess later this month. At a separate event, McConnell said that a second stimulus bill "could include" direct payments to individuals and families, but noted that those earning less than $40,000 "are the hardest hit."

Under the Heroes Act, which the U.S. House of Representatives approved in May, the second round of stimulus payments would go to those who received benefits under the Cares Act, and would also extend benefits to dependent children and workers with taxpayer identification numbers.

McConnell's statement does not necessarily mean that benefits will be limited to low-income individuals. The stimulus check 2 calculator still states that those earning less than $75,000 are eligible for a second round of payments. However, the Congressman indicated that this stimulus package will be the last.

President Trump recently stated that he would support a "larger number" for the second stimulus package, but did not specify a specific amount.

The version of the Heroes Act approved by the House of Representatives does not lower the income cap for stimulus 2. In fact, more people would qualify to receive more money under the second stimulus package.

As with the Cares Act, single taxpayers earning less than $75,000 a year and married taxpayers earning less than $150,000 a year would be eligible to receive the full $1,200. Taxpayers up to $99,000 for single taxpayers and $198,000 for married taxpayers receive proportional benefits, while taxpayers above that amount have their benefits completely terminated.

The Heroes Act increases benefits for dependent children from $500 for children under age 16 to $1,200 for all children claimed as dependent, up to a maximum of $6,000 per household. Workers who pay taxes using a taxpayer identification number rather than a Social Security number would also be eligible for Stimulus Check 2.

The federal government began sending out stimulus checks paid under the Cares Act earlier this spring, but they may not yet be eligible due to the lengthy processing time.

To track payment status, use the IRS Get My Payment app and set up stimulus check notifications in the USPS Informed Delivery tool to receive alerts on the scheduled delivery date of your check or stimulus check debit card.
