OnePlus Nord Release Date Leak — Here's When To Expect it

The OnePlus Nord, a budget smartphone from OnePlus, appears to be coming soon, if a newly leaked series of Amazon listings are to be believed.

Reputed leaker Ishan Agarwal spotted the OnePlus Nord listing via Amazon India and shared the news in a now-deleted tweet, saved by XDA Developers and Twitter user smasithick. The list (still live on a cached page) seems to indicate a possible July 21 launch date for the upcoming smartphone and special digital events surrounding it.

Agarwal's original tweet mentions an AR experience with a physical invitation where virtual participants can win OnePlus products. More importantly, the image on that invitation promises an upcoming phone "made to experience on July 21." nord.oneplus.com/NordAR's URL apparently allows participants to access AR content during the event. (The page has a "coming soon" message for now.)

OnePlus has yet to make a statement on the situation, but Agarwal quickly deleted the tweet, so it seems quite likely that this event will take place near the end of the month

Nord is certainly an attractive prospect for OnePlus fans and budget phone buyers for several reasons. First and foremost, it is a new 5G phone that costs less than $500; OnePlus phones have become a bit pricey in recent years, culminating with the $899 OnePlus 8 Pro. In addition, the OnePlus Nord will feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 765G system-on-chip.

Given OnePlus' illustrious history as a smartphone manufacturer capable of delivering products that consumers truly want and expect, it is no wonder that an intense level of hype has developed around the Nord. Unfortunately, most OnePlus fans in the U.S. will never know about the new release, which, according to OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, is a "new, more affordable smartphone product line" that will be launched first in India and Europe.

Lau suggested that OnePlus will bring "more affordable smartphones" to North America "in the near future," but it remains unclear what kind of budget smartphone line U.S. buyers will see. With Samsung and Apple dominating the U.S., the global market could be up for grabs in OnePlus' eyes, and it is easy to see why India and Europe are more attractive markets for Nord to debut in a big way.

Last week, OnePlus held an event to preview the Nord, which will be part of a program to release several different low-priced products not limited to cell phones. The first batch of pre-orders for the OnePlus Nord were almost instantly to 100 lucky buyers. It sold out, but a second batch will be available on July 8. If you want to secure one for yourself, you'll need to be quick on the draw, clear your schedule, and keep checking back to grab the inexpensive yet powerful Nord for yourself.

OnePlus will reportedly reveal more details about the Nord on its Instagram site later today (July 7).
