Google Pixel3a is officially dead, so where is pixel4a?

The Pixel 4a may have already been delayed several times, but it appears that Google is moving forward with its launch, as evidenced by Google's move to end sales of the Pixel 3a.

Android Police found the Pixel 3a listed as "Unavailable" on Google's online store page (though when we checked, it was only listed as "Out of Stock"). This was confirmed by a statement released to the magazine by a Google spokesperson.

"The Google Store has sold out of stock and is no longer selling the Pixel 3a. For those still interested in purchasing the Pixel 3a, this product is available from several partners while supplies last," the statement said.

Google had cleared out its inventory of Pixel 3 devices in April, leading us to believe that it was clearing out its warehouse space for Pixel 4a devices. However, now that the Pixel 3a is no longer being manufactured, this is perhaps a clear sign of preparation for a new budget smartphone.

The Pixel 3a was a great phone and probably the best overall Pixel phone Google has ever produced. That's why we are so excited to see what has changed for the Pixel 4a, except that the new budget Pixel has yet to arrive.

A year after the Pixel 3a first appeared at Google I/O, we were expecting a May release for the Pixel 4a. However, there have been several postponements, presumably due to the coronavirus pandemic. The latest rumor by John Prosser is that the Pixel 4a could be announced on July 13. However, the launch could be October 22.

Google desperately needs to make a move, as it can no longer monopolize this "cheap premium" portion of the smartphone market. Apple announced the iPhone SE (2020) in April to mostly positive reviews, and the OnePlus Nord is expected to arrive within a few weeks.

In terms of specs, the Pixel 4a is expected to start at an attractive $349, $50 less than the iPhone SE and $150 less than the OnePlus Nord. It can also expect a 5.8-inch OLED display, a mid-range Snapdragon 730 chipset, and 8GB RAM. We can also expect excellent photography from the phone's single rear camera, thanks to Google's superior processing software.

However, at this price, one should not expect facilities like 5G connectivity or wireless charging on the Pixel 4a. We will have to wait and see what Google reveals about the Pixel 4a to see how it officially compares to its rivals.
