Launch Asus ROG Phone 3/22 - Watch out, Galaxy Note 20

The Asus ROG Phone 3 will be the next big gaming phone. With its release date revealed, it could be an attractive high-spec phone for those waiting for Samsung's Galaxy Note 20.

Asus has now announced that the gaming phone will be revealed on July 22 at 11 a.m. ET, at least a week or two before the Galaxy Note 20 is expected to arrive in early August. [Last year's ROG Phone 2 offered top-of-the-line specs, including a 120Hz display, Snapdragon 855 Plus processor, and a huge 6,000mAh battery, but it was a bulky casing with a design that many people found too flashy.

According to a listing of what appears to be the ROG Phone 3 by Chinese device regulator TENAA, the upgrade appears to be more of the same. Specs include a 6.6-inch FHD display, 8GB, 12GB, or 16GB of RAM, 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage, triple rear cameras (two sensors are 64MP and 13MP), and a 6,000mAh battery with 30W fast charging.

The Galaxy Note 20 targets a different audience than the ROG Phone 3. However, it is a closer match than expected for Android users who want the most powerful and best features in their phones rather than the experience of a particular manufacturer. the Note 20 is said to have a better Snapdragon 865 Plus processor, but with over 12GB RAM and a battery that exceeds 5,000mAh are not rumored.

The Galaxy Note 20 has other advantages as well, including better photography capabilities, a QHD display instead of FHD, and an S Pen stylus. However, it is likely to cost more than the ROG Phone 3. For reference, the Galaxy S20 launched earlier this year started at $999, while the ROG Phone 2 started at $899.

Whatever the final specs and prices of both models, we look forward to testing them. Be sure to check back in the future to see how both the ROG Phone 3 and Galaxy Note 20 fare in Tom's Guide's review.
