Samsung Galaxy Note 20 display leak is a big disappointment

According to a top Galaxy smartphone leaker, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 phablet lineup will not support WQHD+ 120Hz refresh rates as previously rumored.

Twitter user Ice Universe said this morning that he is "not optimistic" that the Galaxy Note 20 will offer high resolution and high refresh rates at the same time, even though he suggested earlier this month that it would not. Like Samsung's Galaxy S20, the Note 20 can manage QHD resolution and 120Hz refresh rates, but it does not appear to offer both simultaneously.

Leakers always second-guess information, but this correction is slightly disappointing and casts doubt on the role of Samsung's LTPO display, which is rumored to be featured in the top-of-the-line model. since LTPO display technology allows for better power efficiency, we assume this is believed it could support WQHD+ 120Hz refresh rates.

If this is not the case and Ice Universe's latest information is correct, Note 20 users will always have to choose between a great resolution or a killer refresh rate.

Ice Universe also states that LTPO displays and 120Hz refresh rates may be at a premium. This would be exclusive to the higher-end Galaxy Note 20 Plus or Ultra models, while the entry-level Note 20 might be limited to 60 Hz animations.

On the bright side, Ice Universe reports that Samsung has fixed the camera focusing issue that plagued S20 reviewers prior to its launch in February. The company quickly patched the issue with a software update, but even so, we were relieved to hear that users should not experience a similar affliction this time around.

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is expected to feature a 108MP main sensor, a 13MP telephoto lens with 50x zoom, and a 12MP ultra-wide angle camera. The standard Note 20 will have a 12MP main, 64MP telephoto, and 12MP ultra-wide angle lens.

All Galaxy Note 20 models could be announced at Samsung's August 5 event. At the same Unpacked keynote, the Galaxy Fold 2 could be announced along with several other Samsung products, including the Galaxy Tab S7 tablet and a 5G version of the Galaxy Z Flip.
