iPhone12 leak reveals killer camera upgrade

If new leaked information is to be believed, the iPhone 12 will have a nice upgrade to its video capabilities.

That feature is the ability to record in 4K at 120fps or 240fps. This claim comes from YouTuber EverythingApplePro and is based on a discovery by leaker Max Weinbach in Apple's newly released iOS 14 beta, according to Weinbach's confirmation from an Apple insider, that these are actually there to test before the iPhone 12 is released around September this year.

Currently, the iPhone 11 series and iPhone SE (2020) can record 4K at up to 60 fps and 1080p at up to 240 fps. In other words, the new video capabilities are likely tied to the more powerful A14 Bionic processor, which is expected to debut in the iPhone 12.

These 4K video features are expected to be exclusive to the higher-spec iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max models, not the basic iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Max.

This four-model series is a first for Apple, as is the size variation. The series will start with the iPhone 12 at 5.4 inches, move up to 6.1 inches for the iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12 Pro, and end at 6.7 inches for the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The design is expected to feature a notch similar to the iPhone 11 series, with flat rather than curved sides reminiscent of the iPhone 5S and earlier straight-sided iPhones.

The standard iPhone will likely feature a combination of a main camera and an ultra-wide lens camera, like the iPhone 11. iPhone 12 Pros will feature these two cameras plus a telephoto lens and LiDAR depth sensor. iPad Pro (2020) will be the first LiDAR camera for the iPhone, which is expected to make Apple's already excellent special photo effects and AR applications work even better.

Before that, we are slowly learning more about Apple's latest mobile operating system, iOS 14, thanks to a recently launched beta version. The beta includes Apple's latest and greatest software features, including customizable widgets, a new type of input called Back Tap, and other improvements that could make the iPhone 12 an even bigger upgrade when it goes on sale this fall.
