iPhone12 Leak reveals Big missing Features - and people are angry

The iPhone 12 is expected to start at an aggressively low price of $649, $50 less than the iPhone 11. In fact, according to the latest rumors, Apple may even release a 4G-only version for $549. And now we see why Apple is able to set such a low price.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will not include a 20W fast charger with the iPhone 12, or any charger. This is the second time in a week that we have heard this rumor, so it is becoming more likely as we get closer to launch.

As reported by MacRumors, according to Kuo's research note, Apple will make the 20W power adapter an optional accessory. Additionally, the company will discontinue production of 5W and 18W power adapters.

Apple announced an 18W charger for the iPhone 11 line just last year, but it was only included with the iPhone 11 Pro model. This time around, it appears that no matter which iPhone 12 model you choose, you will have to pay extra for fast charging.

The new 20W power adapter is similar in size to the 18W version and is said to use USB-C for fast charging. We assume Apple will at least include a USB-C to Lightning cable, but the research note does not specify.

As you can imagine, some people are upset that a charger will not be included, and have voiced their concerns on Twitter and elsewhere. Here are some of the responses.

One Twitter user said, "Will the next iPhone 13 not ship with an iPhone?" Another user said he could live with Apple not bundling EarPods, but questioned the decision not to include a charger.

One humorous jab at Apple from @UnwrapImulse started with the headphone jack on the iPhone 7 and looked back at all the features Apple has featured on recent iPhones. In this scenario, by the time users get to the iPhone 16, they will have literally nothing.

However, some on Twitter have defended Apple's decision, saying that not including those accessories could contribute greatly to environmental protection. One user @afearisthis said: "This is a good move. It's good for the environment and reduces waste. Anyone who has a problem with it can have one of the dozen or so that are scattered around my house."

Our sister site iMore.com conducted several surveys on social media on this topic and the results varied by platform. The question: "Would you buy an iPhone if it didn't come with a charger and headphones?

On Facebook, "no" won with 52% and "yes" with 48%; on Instagram, 66% said they would buy an iPhone if it did not come with a charger.

According to a Barclays analyst note last week, the iPhone 12 will not ship with either a power brick or EarPods. In other words, it appears that Apple is trying to cut costs, even if it is inconvenient for customers: the 18W power adapter currently costs $29, and the EarPods cost the same. However, many users will likely upgrade to wireless earbuds like the AirPods or AirPods Pro.

The good news is that this move by Apple will likely save the planet from tons of electronic waste. And for the money, you should be able to get many other attractive features, from the faster A14 Bionic processor and 5G to the improved camera and 120Hz display of the iPhone 12 Pro.

But if you want to enable fast charging, you'll likely have to pay extra.
