Facebook's Dark mode is deployed on iOS - but there's a catch

Facebook's Dark Mode has finally made its way to the iPhone.

The social networking giant began testing Dark Mode on Android earlier this year and brought Facebook Dark Mode to desktop in May. According to Social Media Today, Dark Mode is now available on iPhone as well.

Dark Mode has become a popular visual option for apps in recent years. It changes the background color to black and the text to white. This makes the app easier to see and use for some, while others find it more aesthetically pleasing. Facebook states that the dark mode helps minimize screen glare, especially in low-light environments. It also saves battery power by eliminating the need to use the maximum brightness.

Twitter has had night mode in its Android and iOS apps for years. Google has also launched dark mode in its apps and Chrome. It is also already in several other Facebook-owned apps, including Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram.

The system-wide dark mode option was launched in iOS 13 last year, so perhaps Facebook is testing the iPhone app version with some users before rolling it out widely in iOS 14.

If you are one of the lucky users who got Facebook's Dark Mode, here's how to switch to Dark Mode.

Facebook did not reveal a timeline for bringing dark mode to all mobile users.
