However, new features in iPadOS 14 seem to make the iPad a more gamer-friendly device.

One hidden feature of iPadOS 14 that Apple did not boast about on stage at WWDC 2020 is that mouse and keyboard support is finally coming to the iPad. This is a belated addition that will make Apple Arcade games more capable and help with the overall re-push for more games on Apple devices.

I am surprised that Apple did not add Adaptive Controller support sooner. The company has long championed accessibility features that open up devices to more users.

iOS 14, iPadOS 14, and tvOS also gain pro-level features such as controller button remapping (if you want to reverse the approve and cancel buttons) and controllers with haptic feedback and rumbling sounds. Apple's device also supports lighting, touchpad, and paddles. The first two are most related to using the functionality of Sony's DualShock controller, while the third envisions an Xbox controller.

Apple has also incorporated support for battery life. Motion control support is another benefit for iOS and iPadOS games, which have long used built-in motion sensors.

With these features and 3D audio support for AirPods, Apple seems to recognize all the changes in the gaming industry. All it needs now is the rumored Apple TV 2020 box, which is expected to be faster and capable of handling the next generation of gaming. Sure, Apple Arcade has some neat looking games, but with the revolutionary PS5 and Xbox Series X on the horizon, the Apple TV needs to be more strongly supported.
