Of all the things Samsung plans to unveil at its upcoming Unpacked event, the Galaxy Tab S7 seemed the least likely to be a surprise. After all, previous leaks have detailed almost every aspect of the tablet and its bigger sibling, the Galaxy Tab S7 Plus.

But now MySmartPrice has revealed an unexpected but very welcome upgrade. The tablet will reportedly be the first tablet to feature Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 865 Plus chip, which is rumored to be available next month.

Evidence of this comes via a Geekbench listing for the SM-T875 (the Tab S7's model number). This database shows a processor with one of its cores running at 3.09 GHz, which is well above the current Snapdragon 865's upper limit of 2.84 GHz.

In fact, this gives the Tab S7 a rather enviable score: 971 in the Geekbench single-core test and 2,984 in the multi-core test. For comparison, the Tab S6 scores 720-750 on the single-core test and 2,300-2,500 on the multi-core test. In other words, that's a decent speedup.

These scores still fall far short of the iPad Pro 12.9 results we reviewed. Apple's A12Z Bionic-powered slate scored 1,126 in the single-core test and 4,720 in the multi-core portion. Speaking of the iPad Pro, Samsung's S Pen is also rumored to be upgraded to match the Apple Pencil's 9ms response time. This rumor specifically pertains to the Galaxy Note 20, but expect the upgrade to be applied to the Tab S7 as well.

Samsung's next Unpacked event is reportedly scheduled for August 5, but given that we already expect the Samsung Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Fold 2, and Galaxy Z Flip 5G to be featured, it is likely that Samsung will press earlier It would not be at all surprising if Samsung announced the Tab S7 through a release.
