A new Pokémon game has been announced: Pokémon Unite, a 5-on-5 multiplayer online battle arena game that brings the format made popular by games like League of Legends and Dota 2 into the colorful and engaging Pokémon universe.

Pokémon Unite's release date is still listed as "undecided" on the official Pokémon website. The trailer only says "currently in development," so the launch could be in late 2020 or 2021.

If released, Pokémon Unite will be free-to-play on Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.

Pokémon Unite is a MOBA in the vein of League of Legends and Dota 2. The game consists of five-on-five battles, with up to 10 players at a time defeating enemy Pokémon and aiming for the goal on the opposing team's side of the arena.

Unite appears to allow players to directly control the battle and even evolve Pokémon during the match. They can also catch wild Pokémon during battles.
