The OnePlus Z is officially called the OnePlus Nord - here's the proof

The pieces are coming together for the soon-to-be-released OnePlus Z, including the official name of OnePlus' new low-cost handset.

In a dazzling development, OnePlus has posted photos on an Instagram account with the teasing name OnePlusZLiteThing that seem to tease the upcoming handset. 9to5Google reports that one of the photos posted to the account shows the showed what appeared to be an invitation with the word "Nord" displayed in large letters.

The photo was removed from OnePlus' Instagram, but some thoughtful Twitter users posted a screen capture of the shot for posterity.

The name OnePlus Nord is not that surprising if you've been following along with the saga of OnePlus' efforts to roll out a cheaper version of its phone while retaining some premium features. Earlier this month, leaker Max J. suggested on Twitter that the phone previously rumored to be the OnePlus 8 Lite or OnePlus Z would be called the OnePlus Nord. On the same Instagram account, a photo of a teaser written in Morse code was posted. The coded message spells out "July," which seems to confirm the rumored launch date of the OnePlus budget phone. Earlier, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed that a OnePlus low-cost phone is in preparation.

The OnePlus Nord, or OnePlus Z, is expected to feature a 6.4-inch display with a 90 Hz refresh rate and multiple rear-facing cameras; it will not have the Snapdragon 865 found in the OnePlus 8, but it will have 5G connectivity Snapdragon 765G chipset, including 5G connectivity, is expected to be included.

Nord's rumored price ranges from $499 to $649, but some rumor mongers are hopeful that the price could drop further in the wake of OnePlus founder Carl Pei's nostalgic tweet about the $299 OnePlus One from 2015 ...
