Steelseries Arctis7 Wins Gaming Headset Gold at the Toms Guide Awards 2020

The SteelSeries Arctis 7 has been one of our favorite gaming headsets since its debut in 2016, and that won't be changing anytime soon. And now the SteelSeries Arctis 7 has won the inaugural Tom's Guide Award for Best Gaming Headset.

With flawless wireless performance, excellent sound quality, and plenty of customization options, it is hard to imagine a better gaming headset. The device isn't even that expensive, so anyone with $150 at their disposal can enjoy this comfortable and versatile peripheral.

For those who haven't read our SteelSeries Arctis 7 review, it's easy to explain how good this headset is. First, the elastic "ski goggle"-like headband is a great feature. Unlike many gaming headsets that use stiff steel or brittle plastic headbands, the Arctis 7 has a flexible elastic band that automatically conforms to your head every time you put it on. There is no need to memorize cumbersome notches or numbers, because you automatically find the perfect fit every time you put on Arctis 7.

Game sound is also phenomenal, highlighting noises such as footsteps and gunfire without sacrificing dialogue or music. Whether you need excellent directional sound for a first-person shooter or immersive sound for a lengthy RPG, there is a sound setting to suit your needs. And if you don't have a setting, you can create one yourself: the SteelSeries Engine software lets you set game-specific profiles, adjust soundscape options, and switch between surround sounds.

Arctis 7 is also compatible with virtually every system on the market. It is wireless and compatible with PC and PS4, and with the included 3.5 mm audio cable, it can also be used with Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Volume, chat, and microphone controls on the earcups let you control the entire audio experience without having to enter complex console menus. There's also a retractable microphone, so you don't have to worry about misplacing your audio inputs.

Of course, Arctis 7 isn't the only game in town; the Turtle Beach Elite Alas Aero is also a supremely comfortable wireless mic that performs excellently on PC and PS4. The Astro A40, another firm favorite, offers more than 90,000 possible combinations, allowing you to customize your own headset. Both of these headsets are excellent, but none can match the Arctis 7's novel headband.

The Arctis 7 is not a new headset, but there is a reason it has reigned at the top of our list for four years. It won the Tom's Guide award long ago.
