Stimulus Check Notification: Know when your payment arrives

Stimulus Check Notification: Know when your payment arrives

They let you know when your stimulus check will arrive.

No need to hover over the mailman, the USPS offers a delivery notification service that tells you exactly when and where your stimulus check will arrive. And it's free.

The Informed Delivery tool allows anyone to track their stimulus checks as they are processed by the post office. Just as with items ordered online, Informed Delivery will notify you when the envelope containing your payment from the IRS arrives in your mailbox.

This is much easier than using the IRS stimulus phone number to inquire when your check will arrive.

Informed delivery only works, however, if the IRS has processed, printed, and mailed the stimulus check. If you have not yet filed your tax return or the government is still reviewing your forms, you cannot receive payment via USPS.

Instead, you can track the status of your payment using the IRS's stimulus check app: the Get My Payment tool, launched in April, tells you the progress of your check after you fill out a simple form with your personal information.

Once Get My Payment tells you that the check has been sent, the USPS Informed Delivery System can confirm that the check has been processed and sent.

Note that this information applies only to the first round of the stimulus package. The second round has not yet passed, but is in the planning stages. From eligibility requirements to potential timeframes, here is everything we know about the second round of the stimulus package.

Informed Delivery works for mail sent to residential and non-business PO Box addresses, but people living in certain apartment complexes may not be able to track their mail. Also, Informed Delivery does not work for business addresses.

Step 1: Go to the USPS Informed Delivery page; click the button marked "Sign Up for Free.

Step 2: Fill in your shipping address; click Continue. If the stimulus check has been processed and is headed to your address, you are eligible to set up an Informed Delivery account.

Step 3: Create a username, password, and personal security question. Enter your contact information and click Continue.

Step 4: Verify your account by clicking "Verify your identity online" or "Request an invitation code by mail". You can have the code mailed to you, but it is faster and more efficient to do this online.

Once your account is verified, you will receive email updates about your stimulus check deliveries every Monday through Saturday. You can also use the Informed Delivery app (iOS and Android) to track payments until they reach your mailbox.
