Arlo, Nest, Blink, and Ring take note: Wyze, a company that makes some of the best home security cameras under $50, now has an outdoor model.

The battery-powered Wyze Cam Outdoor boasts a 1080p camera, both local and cloud storage, and costs just $50. At this price, it would be an ideal outdoor camera for security-conscious individuals on a tight budget.

The Wyze Cam Outdoor is available today (June 23) at Wyze.com. The camera and base station bundle is $49.99. [Additional cameras are $39.99 each, and up to four cameras can be paired to a single base station.

The Wyze Cam Outdoor measures 2.8 x 2.3 x 2.3 inches and, like the company's indoor cameras, looks like a small white cube. However, this model is IP65 rated, so it is rain and dust resistant. [Wyze Cam Outdoor communicates with a base station, which is connected to the home's Wi-Fi network. By doing so, Wyze Cam Outdoor saves battery life. The company estimates that the camera can last three to six months without needing recharging.

The camera's battery is not replaceable and must be charged via a micro USB port. In contrast, the Blink XT2 runs on two replaceable AA batteries and can last up to two years, according to the company.

Like the indoor camera, the Wyze Cam Outdoor has a microSD card slot (supporting up to 32 GB of storage), and the base station also has a 32 GB card slot. But - and this is where Wyze's cameras are a real bargain - the company also offers 14 days of rolling cloud storage for free. Clips are limited to 12 seconds, however.

While Blink cameras have no local storage (an update to the base station is planned that will allow USB drives to be attached), the company offers up to 120 minutes of free video storage, with videos up to 60 seconds in length.

In addition, Wyze Cam Outdoor has an offline travel mode, so owners can take the camera on vacation and use it to monitor hotel rooms, take videos in outdoor nature, etc.
