iOS14 includes a big Apple Podcast upgrade

With the impending release of iOS 14, many familiar parts of the iPhone user experience will undergo changes. The latest leaks reveal that one of the apps that will be heavily revamped is the Apple Podcasts app.

The news comes via 9to5Mac, which cites "sources familiar with the matter." According to the leak, one of the key features of iOS 14 will be enhanced podcast curation in Apple's apps.

Just as algorithmically generated recommendations in Apple Music and Spotify will guide you to more content similar to what you are already listening to, this new iOS 14 feature could help introduce more podcasts.

9to5Mac speculates that the addition of this tweak could also lead to a revamped social feature. Just as other apps allow users to see what their friends are listening to or watching and share playlists, Apple is likely to allow users to exchange podcast recommendations.

More notably, Apple is also adding a feed of bonus content created by podcast creators as a subscriber-only benefit; as MacRumors reported, "These bonus content will appear in the same feed as the podcast, but but will appear separately from regular episodes."

iOS 14 has more than an update to Apple Podcasts. It could be an update that introduces customizable widgets to the iPhone home screen, a feature Android users have enjoyed for years. Other rumored iOS 14 features include a new list view option on the homescreen and a new multitasking menu similar to the iPadOS.

What will be in iOS 14 will be revealed during the WWDC 2020 keynote at 10:00 AM ET today. Catch up on all the iOS 14 rumors before the big announcement and read our quick guide on how to watch WWDC 2020.
