Samsung Galaxy Note 20 leak reveals Big S pen upgrade

The new S Pen in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 20 may be more powerful than the Galaxy Note 10's stylus.

At least that's according to a tweet from serial tech leaker Ice Universe, who simply tweeted "9ms," prompting speculation as to what that might mean. However, given that Ice Universe is still tweeting Galaxy Note 20 leaks today, we can assume that the tweet is related to Samsung's next flagship phone.

Both Galaxy Note 20 models are expected to feature 120Hz refresh rate displays, but are not expected to have a 9ms response time.

Therefore, based on some of the responses to the Ice Universe tweet and our own research, we can infer that the response time of the S Pen on the Galaxy Note 20 will be 9ms. After all, the response time of the Apple Pencil for the iPad Pro 2020 is 9ms, so it makes sense that Samsung would want to catch up.

This lower response time, combined with a 120Hz refresh rate display, would make using the S Pen on the Galaxy Note 20 a sharper experience. Using the S Pen to scroll or tap text might be a bit smarter.

For those who like to use the S Pen to scribble notes, annotate photos, or draw on their phones, the faster response time would be a boon; while it won't revolutionize the S Pen experience, the Galaxy Note 20 series and its predecessor, the Note 10, and it appears to be the sum total of many upgrades over its predecessor.

Information so far indicates that the Galaxy Note 20 will feature a 6.42-inch display, Snapdragon 865 or Exynos 992 chipset, 8 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of storage capacity. Battery sizes range from 4,000 mAh to 4,300 mAh, and it will also feature 5G connectivity. As for cameras, the Note 20 will use a 12 MP main camera, a 64 MP telephoto camera, and a 12 MP ultra-wide camera with a time-of-flight sensor.

It's almost the same story for the Galaxy Note 20 Plus (or Note 20 Ultra), which will feature a 6.87-inch display and LTPO technology that dynamically adjusts the refresh rate to avoid consuming battery power when not needed. That said, the battery is set at 5,000 mAh instead of 4,500 mAh. Storage will be available in 256GB and 512GB variants, and 12GB of RAM will be offered. [As for the rear-facing camera, the Galaxy Note 20 Plus is expected to feature a 108MP main camera with an improved sensor over the Galaxy S20 Ultra, a 13MP telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. The addition of a laser focus sensor will improve depth detection in the camera array.

According to the latest leaks, the Galaxy Note 20, which will be announced on August 5, could be Samsung's most powerful flagship phone. Whether it will rival other upcoming phones like the iPhone 12 remains to be seen. But with a series of improvements, it could be one of the best phones to be released this year.
