The price of the OnePlus Z could be justち299 as the co-founder's tweet sets off firestorm

The OnePlus Z is one of the most anticipated Android phones of 2020, as the company is reportedly returning to its value-priced roots after launching the more premium OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro.

How cheap will the OnePlus Z (aka OnePlus Nord) be?A new tweet by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei speculates that the OnePlus Z will cost $299, below the Pixel 4a and iPhone SE 2020 which has led to speculation that the OnePlus Z will be priced at $299, below the Pixel 4a and iPhone SE 2020. But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let's take a look at what the tweet says.

Carl Pei's tweet simply says, "It's been a while," and embeds a link to the original OnePlus One, which launched in 2014; as Android Central reminds us, the OnePlus One started at $299 for the 16GB model.

Is Pei just being nostalgic? Probably not. There is a reason he is tweeting about that old phone right now. It could mean that OnePlus is getting closer to launching the OnePlus Z phone, and a launch date could be imminent. However, the co-founder did not specifically mention pricing.

However, if the OnePlus Z is as low as $299, it would be $50 cheaper than the rumored $349 price of the apparently delayed Google Pixel 4a. It would also be $100 less than the iPhone SE. [The OnePlus Z/OnePlus Nord is said to have a 6.4-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a Snapdragon 768G processor with 5G connectivity as well. However, it is highly unlikely that OnePlus can offer a 5G phone for less than $300.

Leakers seem to be divided on the number of cameras that the OnePlus Z will have, with one report saying that it could have three lenses and another saying that it could have as many as four. Again, if the OnePluz Z is so cheap, the latter scenario will not happen.

We will have to wait and see how affordable the OnePlus Z will be. For now, I am interested in this teaser, but not convinced.
