With the English Premier League back in action, soccer fans are being urged to secure their streaming accounts and subscriptions.

The National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) in the UK warned today (June 17) that fraudsters may attempt to access accounts by guessing obvious or previously compromised passwords.

Last year, the NCSC reported that hackers have been able to guess Premier League passwords such as "liverpool" (280,723), "chelsea" (216,667), "arsenal" (179,095), "manutd" (59,440), and "everton" (46,619). By guessing simple or obvious passwords containing team names, the team discovered that approximately 700,000 accounts of all types had been compromised.

Hackers could access sports streaming platforms to watch games, make purchases, or use personal information for future fraud.

The NCSC recommends that users take a few basic steps, such as creating a new password consisting of three random words (one of the best password managers may be helpful), making sure the streaming app is up to date before logging on to the Premier League live stream, and other basic By taking steps, users can protect their accounts, he stated.

"With no option to watch soccer matches in pubs or in person, it's great to see technology filling the gap and allowing thousands of fans to watch their teams from the comfort of their own living rooms.

"I would strongly encourage fans to check out the government's Cyber Aware campaign to ensure the safest possible streaming experience."
