Sony TV 2020: 8K TVs, OLED TVs, and all 4K Sony TVs

Sony TV 2020: 8K TVs, OLED TVs, and all 4K Sony TVs

Sony recently announced its 2020 TV lineup, with a new large-screen 8K model and a more compact 48-inch OLED.

Sony's new 2020 TVs won't be available until later this spring, but some of them could make our best TV list. We have the first details on Sony's 8K, 4K OLED, and 4K LED sets, all running on the Android 9 Pie smart TV platform and featuring the company's proprietary Picture Processor X1 Ultimate chip. Sony 2020 TVs will also introduce Ambient Optimization, a new technology that automatically adjusts the set's picture and sound quality to best suit the surrounding environment.

We will update this article as more details regarding the Sony 2020 TVs' features, specs, and pricing become available.

Here is what we know so far about the Sony 2020 TV lineup.

The Sony Z8H 8K TV, available in 75" and 85" sizes, leads the Sony 2020 TV lineup. Following last year's Z9G 8K TV, the Z8H promises realistic detail at a massive 7680 x 4320 resolution. Like the Samsung 2020 and LG2020 TV 8K products, Sony's Z8H should reproduce sharp images, strong contrast, and true blacks from a full-array LED panel with local dimming.

Sony's new Acoustic Multi-Audio feature turns the entire frame of the Z8H into a tweeter. By vibrating the frame of the set, the sound is synchronized with the image and sounds as if it is popping directly from the display.

Z8H owners also have access to a new backlit remote control; the Z8H's built-in far-field microphone is compatible with Google Assistant. Simply speak into the screen to search for entertainment or control smart home devices.

The 85-inch Z8H OLED is the more widely available of the two and sells for $9,999. thanks to the smaller 2020 models and improvements in 8K TV manufacturing, the Z8H model is dramatically more affordable than last year's 98-inch Z9G, which cost $69,999

The Z8H is also more affordable than the Z9G, which cost $69,999.

The 48-inch A9S Master Series OLED is another standout among Sony's 2020 models. The smallest OLED the company has ever offered, the A9S brings the best elements of the nearly flawless Sony A9G OLED TV into a compact vehicle.

Manufacturers seem to be gauging interest in smaller OLED sets (and by extension, OLEDs that won't break the bank); the A9S's central aluminum stand offers even more installation flexibility and may make owning a gorgeous OLED a bit more affordable for some people It may even make owning a gorgeous OLED a little more affordable for some people.

The A9S Master Series OLEDs feature Sony's Acoustic Multi-Audio Technology and new Frame Tweeter Technology.

One step below the A9G is the Sony Bravia A8H OLED TV. While it looks like any of Sony's previous offerings, it has a few noteworthy tricks up its sleeve. At a surprisingly competitive price, this may be the most all-around attractive OLED for this manufacturer.

This product features Sony's X-Motion Clarity technology. According to Sony, X-Motion Clarity is a way to get the natural motion effect in OLEDs that you get from black frame insertion technology, without the hit to luminance that black frame insertion usually causes.

The A8H comes in 55" and 65" sizes and features the same new Acoustic Surface acoustic technology found in the A9S and Z8H.

The Sony Bravia A8H OLED is available now; the 55-inch model retails for $1,899 and the 65-inch model for $2,799.

Moving to mid-range Sony 2020 TVs, the X950H could be in the sweet spot of premium features without the OLED price tag. This LCD set fully supports 4K HDR and features the same Picture Processor X1 Ultimate chip as the above set.

The X950H also features X-Wide Angle on its 55" and 65" models, which should improve viewing angles. Poor viewing angles are generally a drawback of LCD TVs compared to OLED models.

Like the Z8H, the X950H has a built-in microphone that allows users to control the set and other good Google Home-enabled devices by talking to Google Assistants.

The X950H is available in 49", 55", 65", 75", and 85" sizes, with prices starting at $999.

At the bottom of the Sony 2020 TVs lineup is the X900H 4K LED TV, available in 55-, 65-, 75-, and 85-inch models with diamond-cut bezels and the Picture Processor X1 Ultimate chip The X900H is priced to be a budget-friendly product due to the following factors.

What is interesting about the X900H is that it is the only Sony 2020 TV to feature an ATSC 3.0 tuner (also known as Next Gen TV) NextGen TV is a significant upgrade, offering 4K resolution and HDR content over-the-air, with sound and LG has also announced NextGen TV-compatible models, all of which are higher-end models.

The last of the Sony 2020 TVs is the X800H. This Android TV-powered set uses Google Assistant for easy access to content and control of connected smart home devices. It can also be paired with Alexa to stream smart camera video via voice.

The 43-inch model sells for $599 and can be scaled up to 85 inches for $1,999.

This is all the information we have so far on the Sony 2020 TVs, but we expect more details to be announced or confirmed by the company as we get closer to the launch of the new lineup, which is expected this spring. We will update this page as new information becomes available, so stay tuned for updates on Sony's new OLED and 4K LED models coming in 2020.
