If you like your iPhone to launch in September, a new analyst report offers encouraging news about Apple's iPhone 12 plans. Apple's upcoming phone may not be announced at the beginning of the month as usual, but it is still on track for a September debut, with the iPhone 12 arriving just a few weeks later than usual.

This is the word from Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives in a note to investors; according to AppleInsider, which looked at Ives' research, the analyst said Apple's supply chain is back to normal and the iPhone 12 is "on track for a typical September timeframe" and is on track to launch in that timeframe, the report said. Specifically, Ives predicts a late September launch event and an early October release date.

This is later than Apple's recent iPhone launch dates, but not much later. iPhone 11 models shipped last year on September 20, following Apple's September 10 launch event. Apple's last iPhone release in October was the iPhone XR in 2018, but the iPhone XS and XS Max had already debuted a month earlier.

Ives' forecast is much more optimistic than what others had expected for the iPhone 12, where the global coronavirus outbreak has caused disruptions at companies that supply the components Apple uses in its phones. Travel restrictions have also reportedly hampered the ability of Apple employees to travel to Asia to oversee the production of iPhones

, and the company's employees have been forced to travel to the United States to work on the iPhone 12.

As a result, many iPhone 12 rumors predicted a significant delay in the iPhone's release. The Wall Street Journal predicted that Apple would not release the new model until October, and reports last month raised the possibility that the new model would not arrive until November.

Clashing predictions about when Apple is going to take the wraps off its new phone, suggest that much remains up in the air. Expect a clearer date to emerge as summer deepens and iPhone production ramps up.

Ives' research note predicts a big year for iPhone upgrades, as all four rumored models are expected to ship with 5G connectivity. However, Ives notes that not all iPhone 12s will have full access to 5G networks. According to him, only some models will be able to take advantage of the high-speed mmWave-based 5G that currently makes up the bulk of Verizon's 5G network. (AT&T and T-Mobile used far-field low-band 5G in their initial launches and are now building on that with faster 5G)

This is not the first time we have heard of varying levels of 5G support among Apple phones. Previous reports indicated that the iPhone 12 Pro would work with all flavors of 5G, while the less expensive iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max would not work with mmWave.
