The design of the iPhone12 is allegedly leaked — and that's what we've been waiting for

The exterior design of the iPhone 12 is expected to be the biggest revamp since 2017. For that reason, it is especially exciting to see all of the rumors we have heard so far consolidated into an actual model.

The model in question was revealed to the world by JinStore on Twitter (via MacRumors) in the medium of CAD drawings and metal case molds; since JinStore is apparently an Australia-based Apple reseller, it is likely that case manufacturers are using third-party It is possible that JinStore obtained the schematics used to design the iPhone 12 accessories.

The three different case molds are labeled with three different sizes that we hear will be options for the iPhone 12: 5.4-inch (iPhone 12), 6.1-inch (iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12 Pro), and 6.7-inch (iPhone 12 Pro Max).

As has been rumored, the iPhone 12 mold features flat sides and square edges, similar to the iPad Pro 2020. Apple used a similar one from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s. However, recent iPhones, including the iPhone 11, have rounded edges.

The notch on the front, where the selfie camera and Face ID sensor are located, remains the same. However, the sides appear to be truncated, giving users a bit more display space. Additionally, the 5.4-inch model has an extra hole above the speaker cutout. While this may reflect a new feature that is only available on the iPhone 12, it is more likely a processing error on the part of JinStore.

We can also see that the Lightning port remains on the bottom edge. There were rumors that Apple would do away with its proprietary connector and adopt USB-C, as it did with the iPad Pro. However, this is no longer the consensus of leakers and analysts, and the iPhone 13 is believed to be the first portless iPhone.

Looking at the back in the CAD drawing, one can see a square camera bump with three sensors and a flash module. This is confusing, as the standard iPhone 12 model is expected to have two sensors, while the 12 Pro model will have three sensors and a LiDAR depth sensor. It is possible that more sensors than we expected will be included in the basic iPhone 12 model or that Apple has changed its plans regarding the LiDAR sensor.

This is one of the main reasons why we should take this leak with a grain of salt. Case makers often get advance information from cell phone companies in order to prepare accessories for new device launches, but they also rely on other leaks.

Aside from the exterior details, which are fairly well shown by JinStore molds, the iPhone 12 is rumored to use the new A14 Bionic chipset, continuing Apple's power advantage over similar Android phones. iPhone 12 displays in all four versions of the 12 will use OLEDs for brighter, more colorful output, and the iPhone 12 Pro model is likely to have a 120Hz refresh rate.
