PS5 design and pre-order information revealed in Sony Playstation CEO Interview

Sony's PS5 event was a fascinating showcase for upcoming PS5 games, but it also revealed the design of the PS5. And its appearance turned out to be rather polarizing, as early reactions indicate.

Some on Twitter compared the PS5 to a white binder with black pages inside, from Linsky's Router or Wally's Eve. Regardless, however, people are talking about the PS5's design.

According to Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony PlayStation, in a recent interview with CNET, the company wanted to take a risk and make a statement with a black and white console with blue lights shining on a tall, slim monolith.

"We wanted to do something bold and daring. We wanted it to be forward-looking and future-oriented, looking ahead to the 2020s."

Unfortunately, Ryan did not reveal the price of the PS5 or whether the all-digital version of the console will be cheaper (we think so). [The PS5 is expected to launch this November holiday season and will go head-to-head with the new Xbox Series X. We've seen some leaks and rumors about the PS5 price, including one for £599.99 (~$760), but we're hoping it's just a placeholder We are hoping that the PS5 will be a placeholder.

Regarding PS5 pre-orders, Ryan said, "I am confident that we will find a way (with retailers) to ensure that the PlayStation gets to the consumers who want it."

Ryan also revealed that Sony plans to collect data points from retailers to estimate what that means in terms of "first day demand." This will ultimately feed into the PS5 production process.
