Apple's iOS 14 will be unveiled in a big way at this month's WWDC 2020 virtual event. But that doesn't stop various leaks from previewing what the next iPhone operating system will have.

The latest leak comes courtesy of MacRumors, which noted that iOS 14 has the ability to withdraw sent iMessages. If you're someone who is a little too quick to send messages without taking into account their content or impact, this feature could be a boon.

According to the developer community, which has obtained an early build of iOS 14, the iMessage redaction feature will be visible to both parties, so recipients of an overly obscene message, for example, will know it was sucked back in by the sender. While this is a very good thing in terms of transparency, it could raise all sorts of questions from the recipient when they learn that the message has been withdrawn.

Such a feature already exists in WhatsApp, where a message sent to another person or group chat can be deleted. However, the message is replaced by a text that clearly indicates that the message has been deleted. This means, for example, that messages that may contain sensitive information or that have gone a little too far with a particularly racy joke can be secretly deleted.

Adding a redaction feature to iMessage would help Apple's native iPhone messaging app catch up with other services.

However, more information about this feature reveals that if such a call recording feature is included in iOS 14, it will actually be used as a debugging tool for Apple and not a feature offered to iPhone users.

These communication features are just the tip of the iceberg for iOS 14, which is expected to bring a set of more exciting upgrades to the next version of the mobile operating system. The biggest rumor is that iOS 14 may introduce widgets on the home screen that will allow users to receive information and notifications without having to open an app. Judging from the concept videos we have seen, it looks like that could be a fitting change for iOS.
