iPhone12 leak just revealed the biggest design changes

The iPhone 12 could be the first iPhone in years to really switch Apple's design language. This new iPhone 12 rendering provides a fairly modest vision of what it will look like, but it also means that it could end up being very accurate to the actual product when it is launched.

PhoneArena has released the following rendering. The renderings were created using information obtained from someone at MobileDirect.ro, a Romanian mobile case retailer, and as such these renderings have a transparent case around them. Hopefully we can believe that these designs are faithful to the actual iPhone 12, since case makers get the schematics of the phone before launch in order to make compatible products.

While there are many similarities between this design and the iPhone 11 Pro's appearance, the rumored major changes are shown. First, Apple is said to be returning to the flat sides last seen on the iPhone 5S, reflected here in the matte-textured metal. There is no doubt that the curved edges are easier to hold, but there is no denying that they look attractive, at least in this rendering.

Also rumored to be changed is the front notch, which houses the various sensors and receptors needed for the selfie camera and Face ID. In this rendering, this is accomplished by moving the speaker grille and sensors toward the top edge and making the notch much shorter.

The display that the notch pops out of will also change this year, with Apple apparently planning to ditch the LCD panel altogether and introduce brighter, more colorful OLED screens to all four rumored iPhone 12 models. These renderings seem to suggest that there will be a fingerprint scanner under the display, similar to Face ID. While many iPhone users desperately miss the tactile feel and reliability of Touch ID, we do not expect this to be an iPhone 12 feature.

The back shows a glossy textured glass surface, rather than the matte back seen on the iPhone 11 Pro. There is also a camera bump that contains three cameras in one version and four in another. Rumor has it that the basic iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max will have two cameras (like the iPhone 11), while the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will have four cameras, one of which is an all-new LiDAR for improved photography and AR effects This is odd since they seem to have settled on it being a sensor.

Apple has been doing fall releases of the iPhone since 2012, and this year seems to be no different. However, the coronavirus outbreak may delay the actual release of the iPhone 12. Besides the features depicted in this design, Apple expects the iPhone 12 to feature the new A14 Bionic chipset and 5G capabilities. It is also expected that the iPhone 12 Pro's display will have a 120 Hz refresh rate.
