Killer Apple Card Upgrade Makes iPad and Macbook More Affordable

Given that the Apple Card appeals to those who wear their love of Apple products on their sleeves, one of the best perks is interest-free financing and a bit of cash back on iPhone purchases; according to Bloomberg, Apple is expanding this benefit to include the company logo on Bloomberg reports that Apple plans to expand the offer to include anything with the company's logo imprinted on it.

It won't be for the same 24-month period offered on last year's iPhone, but it's still an improvement over having to pay a lump sum; according to Bloomberg, the iPad, Mac, Apple Pencil, iPad keyboard, Mac XDR Display monitors will receive 12 months interest-free, while AirPods, Apple TV, and HomePod will have 6 months.

In other words, instead of paying $1,649 upfront for the 1TB cellular 12.9-inch iPad Pro, you can make 12 payments of $137.41. The second-generation Apple Pencil, on the other hand, costs just $10.75 per month. That's considerably more than the actual price of the pencil, but quite a bargain for Apple's pressure-sensitive magnetic take.

In fact, it is a bit odd that the Apple Pencil is in the 12-month category. At current prices, the HomePod costs $49.83 for 6 months, while a set of AirPods costs $26.50 per month.

There is no mention of the upcoming iPhone 12 in this report, but given that this is the schedule people are used to with existing third-party smartphone contracts, it would be surprising if this does not stick to the same 24-month payment plan as before.

Interest-free payments are made through the Apple Card section of the Wallet app on the iPhone, and the charge is added to your monthly Apple Card bill. This means that you need to be fairly familiar with the Apple ecosystem to take advantage of this benefit, but if you already have an Apple Card in your wallet, it is likely already applied.

Apple, as usual, refused to comment on Bloomberg's report, but this detail was provided by "someone familiar with the plan," and there is no reason to doubt that the company was moving in this direction anyway. Indeed, Tim Cook said on a recent earnings call, "We are working on that [Apple Card payment plan] for other products as well.
