iPhone12 hit with "major" delay — here's when to expect it

New indications are emerging that the launch of the iPhone 12 may be delayed. This warning comes from a very reliable source.

Bloomberg reports that Broadcom told investors during its quarterly earnings call today (June 4) that the iPhone 12 launch could be delayed; Broadcom CEO Hock Tan, without mentioning Apple by name, said that "major North American mobile phone" customers are facing "significant product delays."

Since Apple is the leading North American handset manufacturer that uses Broadcom's wireless components in its phones, it is not too much of a leap to put two and two together.

Specifically, Tan told investors that he expects third-quarter revenue to be significantly lower, but that the jump in wireless revenue will occur a quarter later than usual. This means that the iPhone 12 will likely not be available until at least October or later.

It is not necessarily shocking news to hear that the iPhone 12 will not ship during the customary September. Previous reports have suggested that the coronavirus outbreak affected Apple's production schedule and that the factory shutdowns affected Apple's supply chain in Asia; the Wall Street Journal previously reported that the iPhone will launch a month later than usual, and one Apple rumor expert stated that the iPhone 12 delay could extend into November

.

Still, this latest indication of a delayed iPhone 12 launch is significant in terms of where it came from. This is not the prediction of an unnamed source or analyst, but a known Apple supplier warning of a drop in revenue due to a later-than-expected launch.

When the iPhone 12 arrives later this year, it is expected to come in four models: the 5.4-inch iPhone 12, 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max, 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max. All four models will have 5 G connectivity, and the Pro model is expected to add a LiDAR sensor in addition to the existing camera on the iPhone 11 Pro.
