Facebook just made it easier to delete your old posts — here's how

If you have a lot of embarrassing old Facebook posts (and who doesn't?), the social networking giant is making it easier to delete them. Facebook is rolling out a new tool called "Activity Management" to allow users to "curate their presence on Facebook to more accurately reflect who they are today," the company said in an announcement.

Many Facebook users have been using the platform for years and probably have status posts, photos, and videos that are not very old. The new feature allows users to manage all their posts and use filters to search for posts in a specific date range, mentions of a specific person, or posts of a specific content type. No longer do you have to manually scroll through your feed to find unfortunate posts.

Users can then delete posts individually or in bulk. There is also an option to archive posts so that only you can view them. Deleted posts will go to the trash and will be kept for 30 days before being erased (or possibly restored).

Old social media posts can come back to haunt people (quite a few celebrities have been deleted) when they resurface at job interviews or other public appearances. Even if the content is harmless, an out-of-context joke or complaint on Facebook can be a reason for an employer not to hire or fire someone. Otherwise, old posts can be used to harass or doxing.

Facebook has long faced criticism for its privacy standards. In recent years, Facebook has moved forward to give users more control over their own content, and this deletion tool goes even further

. It will be available in the desktop version in the future.
