The OnePlus Z benchmark has just leaked — this is how fast it is

If you've been following the rumors surrounding the OnePlus Z, you may know that OnePlus is planning to launch a more affordable handset that promises big power, from a list of purported new phones posted on Geekbench 5 (via Pocketnow), OnePlus' plans to launch a lower-priced handset gave us an idea of just how powerful the handset could be.

The list links the phone, model named OnePlus AC2003, to an octa-core Qualcomm chipset with a base clock speed of 1.8 GHz, along with a generous 12 GB of RAM. This chip is believed to be the Snapdragon 765G, one of Qualcomm's few 5G chipsets, aside from the 865 series processors found in more premium handsets such as the OnePlus 8 and Samsung Galaxy S20.

The OnePlus Z with this chip reportedly managed to achieve a multi-core Geekbench 5 score of 1,955 points. This is considerably faster than recent mid-range smartphones we have seen, including the TCL 10 Pro (1,604 points) and last year's Google Pixel 3a (1,336 points). Of course, it's not far behind Snapdragon 865-powered phones like the OnePlus 8 (3,387), even with its RAM. Also, forget about challenging the lowly iPhone SE 2020 (3,226 on Geekbench5) and its surprisingly powerful A13 Bionic processor. [Early rumors suggested that OnePlus might use MediaTek Dimensity silicon for this device, but recent leaks suggest that it has opted for Qualcomm power instead.

It is too early to say how much the OnePlus Z will cost, but a look at OnePlus' existing product lineup should give us some idea. Currently, the OnePlus 8 starts at $699, so the maximum OnePlus can charge for this device would be $599. Personally, I would like to see the OnePlus Z priced at $449 or $499 to compete with the iPhone SE 2020 and Google Pixel 4a. However, given the phone's 5G connectivity, that may not be feasible.

Regardless, the OnePlus Z, when launched, could be one of the least expensive 5G phones on the market and one of the most powerful phones in the mid-range category. the Snapdragon 765 is not a flagship processor, but its performance should be enough for most enough for most users.

Furthermore, if OnePlus chooses the "G" gaming variant of the 765, as has been rumored, the phone's graphics capabilities should be powerful enough to handle most of the latest mobile titles in mid-load settings. Rumors suggest that the OnePlus Z may also feature a 90 Hz display.

It is not known exactly when the OnePlus Z will be available, but there are rumors that it could be as early as July.
