Windows10 2020/5 update is blocked - even on the surface

Microsoft is blocking the Windows 10 May 2020 update on a series of devices, including its own Surface machines, because it has begun causing problems and crashes for those who downloaded and applied the update.

According to Microsoft's documentation on the update, also known as Windows 10 version 2004, the Windows team is currently investigating 10 known issues with this major release. Issues include file corruption, refresh rate issues in games, Bluetooth and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity issues, etc.

Just how bad are these bugs; according to Microsoft, this update breaks mouse support for games and apps that use the GameInput Redistributable tool.

According to The Verge, the warning message for affected devices states, "We are providing this update for compatible devices, but your device is not ready yet. Once Microsoft has everything in place, the update will be available.

So if you are frustrated that Microsoft has not yet rolled out the Windows 10 May 2020 Update to your system, understand that Microsoft has your best interests at heart. Not sure which to choose? Open File Explorer or This PC, right-click and select Properties. Under System Information, you will see 64-bit or 32-bit under System Type.
