It looks like the Apple Watch 6 Killer upgrade has been canceled

The Apple Watch 6 will not feature the company's microLED display as previously rumored. According to a new leak, the Apple Watch 6 will feature an OLED display like the previous five generations of smartwatches.

Twitter user @L0vetodream (via MacRumors) tweeted on May 31 that in their "dream" the Apple Watch Series 6 will have the same display as previous Apple Watches. This source is known to use the phrase "in my dream" followed by the format they use when leaking technical information.

In recent years, JDI Display has provided several OLED displays for the Apple Watch; L0vetodream suggests that JDI's services have again been selected for the upcoming Apple Watch 6.

Previous rumors have suggested that the Apple Watch 6 is ready to switch from OLED displays to microLED screens. This could result in a slimmer, more power-efficient Apple Watch. microLED displays offer improved brightness and do not have the brightness attenuation issues of traditional OLED panels.

In other words, microLED screen technology could extend the life of the Apple Watch.

Bloomberg in 2018 reported that the company is working on producing MicroLED displays in a nondescript building in California. This display was first planned for the Apple Watch because of its small screen and ease of control, but it is unclear if that has changed.

What is known is that the Apple Watch 6 is expected to launch in the fall along with watchOS 7 and the iPhone 12. It will reportedly feature sleep tracking, SpO2 blood oxygen level monitoring, a library of mental health tools, and the company's new S6 chipset.

And it may absolutely be that S6 chip, not the microLED, that brings longer battery life to the Apple Watch.
