Important iPhone Security Update is alive for millions now — Download iOS13.5.1 now

If you have an iPhone, or really any Apple device, you'll want to download the latest software update from Apple that just came out today (June 1).

Apple's new software update focuses on security and patches flaws that can jailbreak a device.

Specifically, the release notes for iOS 13.5.1 and iPadOS 13.5.1 state that the update addresses "memory consumption issues" with "improved memory handling."

It doesn't take much detective work to figure out how Apple was warned of this flaw, especially since the credit for finding this flaw is given to "unc0ver." Last week, a new version of the unc0ver jailbreak appeared promising to work on all current iPhones.

Allegedly, the person who worked on the unc0ver jailbreak said it exploits a "zero-day" vulnerability in iOS of which Apple was unaware.

This release patches the flaw that allows the unc0ver jailbreak and no other flaws. If you are using or plan to use the uncOver jailbreak, you should leave iOS 13.5 alone.

Apple released iOS 13.5 late last month. It's a software update that makes it easier to unlock smartphones when wearing a mask, as more and more people are doing these days due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

iOS 13.5 has also introduced other, less welcome issues like repeated reboots on the iPad for some users and flaws in playback of MP4/MPEG-4 encoded content. Apple's iOS 13.5.1 release notes make no mention of these issues.

Today's security update is not just for iPhone and iPad users. Apple also released new versions of tvOS, watchOS, and macOS for High Sierra and Catalina users that address the same vulnerabilities. More information can be read on Apple's security update site.
