How to Watch SpaceX Crew Dragon launch Live: Time and Saturday schedule

Today we will (hopefully) watch as SpaceX's Crew Dragon is launched for NASA. It is a historic event that will send two astronauts on a private spacecraft to the International Space Station. Due to inclement weather, the launch was postponed from its originally scheduled date of May 27.

This will be the first launch of an American astronaut from the United States since 2011, when the Space Shuttle Atlantis made its final flight. It was the first manned flight for SpaceX and the first time a commercial spacecraft has carried a NASA astronaut.

The mission, called Demo-2, will launch NASA astronauts Douglas Hurley and Robert Behnken into orbit aboard a Crew Dragon spacecraft powered by a Falcon 9 rocket. The scheduled launch time was 4:33 p.m. ET on May 27 from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Unfortunately, due to inclement weather, including tornado warnings, SpaceX canceled the launch.

Demo-2 is now scheduled for today (Saturday, May 30) at 3:22 PM ET. However, according to Space.com, there is a 60% chance of inclement weather not only today, but also during the backup launch window on Sunday, May 31. The next opportunity is June 1.

The SpaceX Crew Dragon crew includes Commander Douglas Hurley and Astronaut Robert Behnken, both of whom joined the astronaut corps in 2000.

Crew Dragon is launched atop a Falcon 9 rocket with 1.7 million pounds of thrust from its first stage engine. Once outside the atmosphere, SpaceX would land the first stage on an offshore drone ship, and the second stage would take off into orbit.

Once in orbit, Crew Dragon heads to the International Space Station. Hurley and Behnken will join the three people already on the station, including Commander Chris Cassidy and two Russian cosmonauts engaged in scientific research.
