Google was preparing an XL version of the Pixel 4a, but reportedly decided to cancel it, opting instead to make a version of one of its budget smartphones. However, this design rendering by Pigtou tells us what the Pixel 4a XL would have looked like. It also reveals one feature we wish the regular Pixel 4a had.

This render, created in collaboration with David of @xleaks7, is based on information from a Google source who confirmed that the Pixel 4a XL has been officially cancelled.The Pixel 4a XL is a Pixel 4a, except for the slightly larger display and added rear camera. a, which was set to look very similar to the leaked image of the Pixel 4a.

Measuring 154.3 x 73.9 x 8.2 mm, the concept Pixel 4a XL is actually closer to the size of the original Pixel 3a, according to Pigtou. This is likely due to the nearly bezel-less display with a punch-hole selfie camera. [The Pixel 3a XL was 160.1 x 76.1 x 8.2 mm. The Pixel 3a XL measured 160.1 x 76.1 x 8.2 mm.

Pigtou did not mention what display size the Pixel 4a XL might have, but since the Pixel 4a is expected to have a 5.7-inch display, the XL model would have a 6.3-inch screen like the Pixel 3a XL expected.

Aside from the larger display, the Pixel 4a XL was expected to feature two rear cameras housed in a square camera bump similar to that found on the Pixel 4. So far, it looks like the Pixel 4a will have a 12.2MP camera, just like its predecessor. We had expected the Pixel 4a XL to have the same main lens and perhaps a secondary telephoto lens like the Pixel 4 XL, but we can imagine that some smartphone photography fans would have preferred an ultra-wide angle camera instead.

The Pixel 4a XL was not going to be a phone with any noticeable added features other than a different screen and camera module, but just a larger version of the Pixel 4a.

The Pixel 4a appears to be a fairly decent budget to mid-range phone. It will not have the flagship chip, but will use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 730. The Pixel 4a's performance should also be better than its predecessor, as RAM will be boosted from 4GB to 6GB; 5G connectivity is also expected, and the Pixel 4a should be one of the few affordable phones with 5G capabilities (the Pixel 4a is expected to be $349).

Now that Apple has announced the iPhone SE 2020, the Pixel 4a will likely face strong competition from Apple's budget iPhone. However, while the iPhone SE has a decent camera, it may lose to the Pixel 4a in terms of photography due to the lack of a night mode. In other words, it could lose to the Pixel 4a in terms of photography. This is especially true if we can expect a decent upgrade over the Pixel 3a's camera capabilities, which had a thoroughly decent night mode.

With the Pixel 4a XL reportedly canceled and the Pixel 4a delayed until July, we'll have to wait until we see if Google's affordable phone can knock the iPhone SE off the top spot on our best budget phone list. we still have to wait at least a month.
