Apple Watch 6 strap just leaked — and we are not impressed

The design of the Apple Watch 6 isn't going to overwhelm us as all signs point to Apple repurposing the look of its previous flagship models for the next generation of wearables. An unreleased set of leather-like straps has leaked online, and we're not impressed.

If the images posted on Reddit yesterday (May 27) are authentic, Apple has redesigned the Leather Loop straps and will offer them in four colors: camel brown, cherry wood red, sky blue, and black.

User Onewingleft shared a photo, saying they are "from several manufacturers" and are "prototypes from an old factory in China" before Apple began increasing production in Vietnam.

"These bands have the same '4mm' and 'Genuine Leather' stamped on them as the OEM bands, and the same 'Assembled in China' on the metal," another user replied, supporting the legitimacy of these alleged Apple Watch bands.

That is not to say that these bands are authentic or made by Apple. They closely resemble Apple's official leather loop straps, which are sourced in Italy and offer a small amount of rugged color.

However, the difference between this possibly redesigned band and the original is the quilting pattern. These new straps eschew the subtle waves of the first ones in favor of a more poignant, bubbly texture. The result is a band that looks sporty rather than sophisticated; if I were to pay $100 for a leather strap, I'd want it to look a lot more expensive than this.

But again, there is not enough evidence to support that these are the next best Apple Watch bands. Apple usually quietly announces new accessories, but in the past it has unveiled select strap models at events.

If these bands are authentic, there is a slight chance that the watchOS 7 presentation at WWDC 2020 will discuss new Apple Watch accessories, more likely to be released in the fall along with the Apple Watch 6 and iPhone 12. likely, if Apple considers the band important enough for the keynote stage.
