Raspberry Pi 4 now has more RAM capacity than some laptops. As announced today (May 28) on the Raspberry Pi Foundation blog, a new 8GB version of the nearly year-old model is now shipping and costs $75.

This new version is for tinkerers who push the Raspberry Pi 4 to its limits. The announcement mentions using the Raspberry Pi for "compiling and linking large software and running heavy server workloads," and for those who use the Raspberry Pi as a standalone computer and are frustrated by the number of browser tabs they can keep open without performance degradation. This 8GB Raspberry Pi 4 is nearly identical to the original except for memory, with the same ARM CPU, the same HDMI, USB, and Ethernet ports; the 4GB Raspberry Pi 4 costs $55 and the 2GB model is $35.

This particular change is related to why it took so long to release the 8GB version due to supply chain problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
