Samsung Galaxy Watch 2 takes on the Apple Watch 6 with a sleek new design

Samsung's Galaxy Watch 2 is on the way, and if the latest leaks are true, it could come in a finish comparable to the premium Apple Watch models.

According to SamMobile, the Galaxy Watch 2 will be available in traditional aluminum and stainless steel, as well as a titanium option. Samsung appears to be taking a cue from the Apple Watch 5, which introduced titanium as a high-end edition last year.

As SamMobile points out, this will be the first time Samsung will sell a titanium smartwatch. Titanium is an attractive, lightweight, and durable material, although the discoloration of the wearable requires pre-treatment.

It is also expensive. If Samsung really gets the memo from Apple, it will raise the price of the Galaxy Watch 2 titanium model. The aluminum Apple Watch Series 5 starts at $399, while the top-of-the-line titanium version is $799.

In our review of Samsung's Galaxy Watch, we liked the stainless steel look of the first model, but the titanium version may appeal to those seeking a fancier Tizen smartwatch.

The original Galaxy Watch was once one of the best smartwatches we tested, and the new version, with its sleek design and enhanced specs, could certainly come in for Apple's smartwatch crown.

Leaked information about the Galaxy Watch 2 has not revealed much else about the upcoming wearable, aside from a longer battery life and 8GB of onboard storage.

It is possible that the Galaxy Watch 2 will debut at the next Samsung Unpacked keynote along with the Galaxy Note 20. If so, it would be in line for a smartwatch showdown with the Apple Watch 6, which is scheduled to launch this fall.
