The 6.2-inch Samsung Galaxy S20, which was introduced in March, had disappeared from Verizon's lineup. However, Big Red, along with other carriers, will now offer the Galaxy S20. Pre-orders will begin on May 21 and arrive on Verizon on June 4.

This Galaxy S20 variant will cost $999, as it does on Unlock and other networks. However, there is one notable upgrade for Verizon.

As the smallest and least expensive version of Samsung's latest flagship, the 6.2-inch S20 was originally built only to support sub-6GHz 5G, rather than the faster, more densely packed millimeter wave networks now materializing in the city It was not. Verizon's S20 version, officially called the Galaxy S20 5G "UW" to distinguish it from the sub-6G-only model, corrects that oversight.

This means that, like the $1,199 Galaxy S20 Plus and $1,399 Galaxy S20 Ultra, this version of the Galaxy S20 will fully support Verizon's 5G infrastructure. And that extends to the carrier's own low-band deployment of 5G, which is expected to begin later this year as Verizon's 5G network buildout work continues.

Verizon's Galaxy S20 will be offered in a distinctive shade called Cloud White, which will cost $41.66 per billing cycle when purchased on a 24-month installment plan.

Verizon is running several promotions on this occasion. First of all, for a limited time the carrier is cutting $150 off the price of the device for new and current customers. In addition, new customers who sign up for a new line with either a monthly payment plan or Big Red's unlimited data option can get up to $1,000 in credits to put toward another S20. Existing unlimited users can also receive up to an additional $350 discount by trading in their old smartphone.

While there was much to like about this phone in our review of the Galaxy S20 earlier this year, Tom's Guide's custom web surfing battery test was an hour shorter than the Galaxy S20 Plus and 2.5 hours shorter than the Galaxy S20 Ultra so we were most disappointed with the short battery life of this device. (One wonders how much of a difference the Verizon-tuned version of the S20 makes with its built-in power-hungry mmWave radio.
