Netflix's Space Force: Release Date, Trailer, cast, and Everything We Know

Netflix's "Space Force" reunites the kings of modern comedy in a workplace comedy about the newly created sixth branch of the U.S. military, as Steve Carell (The Office) and creator Greg Daniels re-team: the Space Force. A new trailer has also been released.

"Space Force" is basically a satire that puts Michael Scott in charge of a group of scientists and astronauts whose goal is to conquer space. The film is sure to be a hilarious romp, and there are many near-misses. In addition to Carell, the cast includes John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz, Diana Silvers, and Tawny Newsom.

Space Force does not publicly acknowledge the tie, but it bears the same name as the military division President Donald Trump called for in 2018 and created last year.

Here's everything we know about Netflix's Space Force, including release date, trailer, cast, and plot.

All 10 episodes of "Space Force" Season 1 will be available on Netflix on Friday, May 29 at 3:01 AM ET.

The first complete trailer for "Space Force" was just released today (May 19) and depicts General Naird, played by Carell, as a character who truly cares and loves space science but does not value the Space Force concept. Also featured are a floating chimpanzee in a space suit and a dog. Is there something for everyone? Maybe.

Netflix released the original "Space Force" teaser trailer on May 5, the day after Star Wars Day 2020. Could this be a coincidence? I don't think so.

The trailer is a showcase for Carell, whose General Mark R. Nehardt seems to be a more competent version of Michael Scott, but just as clumsy and unsympathetic. He also has a short fuse, which gets even shorter as he gets stuck on his ridiculous project of "conquering space." In one scene, a frustrated Naird tries to calm himself by singing the Beach Boys.

Other characters pop up here and there, including Neard's daughter, his wife, and an eccentric scientist played by John Malkovich; like "The Office," "Space Force" is likely to be an ensemble of interesting supporting characters revolving around the lead character.

"Space Force" will bring together some of the funniest people in comedy, making it a must-see for comedy fans. The cast of "Space Force" is led by Steve Carell, who not only stars but also writes and executive produces. He will play four-star General Mark R. Nehardt.

Alongside Carell are the following four series regulars:

Space Force also has several regular cast members, who appear throughout the season:

Space Force is an "office" or "parks and recreation" and is a workplace comedy similar to The Office, but with an even more satirical tone. Space Force is also likely to be topical, with references to the current political climate. For example, the trailer features a stand-in for Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

According to the official Netflix synopsis, "Four-star General Mark R. Nehardt (Steve Carell), a pilot who dreams of running the Air Force, is thrown into turmoil when he is assigned to lead the sixth branch of the newly created US military: the Space Force. Skeptical but dedicated, Mark is ordered by the White House to uproot his family and relocate them to a remote base in Colorado, where he and a diverse team of scientists and "aliens" will hasten America's landing on the moon (again) and achieve complete space dominance.
