Apple's iOS 14 has a treasure trove of new features awaiting iPhone users, including a new home screen that makes finding apps easier, a new multitasking view, and the ability to set default apps. Also expected are new fitness apps and the ability to try apps without downloading them.

And now, a whole new feature of iOS 14, the AR app Gobi, has been revealed, and as reported by Josh Constine, new details come from the iOS 14 leaked files, including the Gobi app icon and a partnership with Starbucks revealing a new QR code format.

In March, 9to5Mac reported on Apple's new AR app for iOS 14. This includes the ability to get information about Apple Store products through the camera's live view based on QR codes.

Constine's report shows what these new QR codes look like and gives examples of a Mac Pro, Apple Watch, the movie "Rogue One," and a Starbucks card that "opens a Starbucks card sign-up flow." For example, the Apple Watch code leads to a 3D rendering of an operable watch.

But the more interesting Gobi app integration is with Starbucks, where a QR code seems to allow you to sign up on the spot and take advantage of promotions based on your current location.

This sign-up offer could include a 20% off discount, for example. As strange as it may sound, Starbucks may install augmented reality (AR) experience towers in its stores.

Additionally, iOS 14 code shows how augmented reality could be leveraged in Apple's "Find My" app. For example, if you are looking for an object with Apple's soon-to-be-announced AirTags attached, you can hold up your iPhone and scan the room to find the object.

From there, the device provides audio and tactile feedback based on the distance from the object you are looking for.

iOS 14 is not likely to arrive before fall, although it is almost certain that Apple will show off a preview of this year's iOS update during its Worldwide Developers Conference in June. This event will be online-only and will begin on June 22. So expect to find out more about Gobi then.
