Nasty Windows10update is crashing system and hiding Files: What to Do

Windows 10 users have a new headache: the update Windows 10 KB4556799, released on May 12, hits users with problems that hide personal files, stop audio, and paralyze the system with a blue screen-of-death

For many people, the update is a "no-brainer.

Perhaps the most frightening problem for many is based on the confusing practice of making people think all their files have been deleted. Fortunately, according to the latest version of Windows, there is a workaround.

Windows 10 loads a temporary user profile with no personal data when installing these updates. This leads users to believe that their accounts have been erased. But thankfully, this is not the case.

And even if you did not suffer such a nasty situation, one Microsoft forum user suffered a blue screen-of-death system crash after upgrading to KB4556799 (and KB4552931) He reported.

Another problem, which some may find difficult to hear, is that KB4556799 is reported to mess up system audio. This appears to be done by removing the driver and resetting the settings. Sound distortion, playback, and lack of audio are major warning signs of this problem. Some people are experiencing sound coming out of their speakers and headphones at the same time.

Fist of various other problems caused by KB4556799, Outlook Search breaks (reported by a Microsoft forum user), white screen flickers (reported by our sister site TechRadar).

We have proposed several fixes. If you are only dealing with a temporary profile issue, try rebooting the system until you get back to your actual account; according to the latest information from Windows, it may take 6-8 reboots.

However, if you are suffering from multiple aspects of this myriad nonsense, the best way back to a working system is to simply uninstall KB4556799. Below are the simple steps to remove this update.

Why does Windows 10 continue to be plagued with bad bugs: the March 2020 issue prevented VPN access, and there are reports of a blue screen of death in April 2020.

Stay tuned as Tom'sGuide continues to track the wide world of Windows 10 glitches.
