9 shows you need to watch this weekend: Snowpiercer, Taylor Swift and more

Shrinking social distance may mean not being able to hang out with friends and loved ones, but at least we still have digital companionship, thanks to streaming services and television. The weekend is here (although in these times, as the Dowager Countess once said, "What is a weekend?").

With all these options, don't you feel like you've seen everything there is to see? No, it doesn't. I basically watch TV as a job, and despite having no other source of entertainment, I watch almost only the surface. Not only is there a huge library of content, but there are new series and movies being released Every day. Every day.

So here's a handy guide to what to watch this weekend and next, including recommendations and notable films.

Anachronistic and somewhat YA comedies based on historical figures are all the rage. First Apple TV Plus released "Dickinson," an imaginative look at the life of the poet. And now Hulu has stepped up to the plate with this satire of the famous Russian ruler, Yekaterina the Great. In "The Great," the ever-charming Elle Fanning plays an energetic little girl who could bring a lot of good to the world if only she would get out of the way of her morally and personally abysmal husband, Tsar Peter (Nicholas Hoult). Who will run the world? It should definitely be the girls.

The gang is back together for an interactive special like the "Bandersnatch" movie from Black Mirror. The plot centers on Kimmy's (Ellie Kemper) wedding, which her former captive, doomsday cult leader Reverend Richard Wayne (Jon Hamm), is trying to prevent. Viewers choose between two options at certain points in the story to determine what happens along the way. This interactive technology is a great way to add to the jokes and hijinks of the talented cast.

Set in Ibiza, this murder mystery is full of orgies, EDM, harpoons, and cocaine-soaked Labradoodles. Signature. From the creators of the addictive Spanish drama Money Heist. We were born to see this, and White Lines is the perfect way to kick off the summer. Everyone is beautiful and fishy as hell. The story follows Zoe Walker (Laura Haddock) as she travels to Ibiza to identify the dead brother of a DJ who has been missing for 20 years. What happened to Axel? Look forward to a wild ride as we find out.

The show has been in production for a very long time, with many twists and turns in its development history. But it is here and it is real. If you're wondering why we need a TV version of Pon Joon-ho's masterpiece, you're a few years too late (and why we need a TV version of "Parasite," think again then.) The TV version of "Snowpiercer" is a reboot, so Jennifer Connelly and David Diggs At the top of the list, expect a new story, new characters, and a new cast. But we can also expect the same dystopian world with the same poor vs. rich theme as the movie. Bonn's influence still lingers.

Crime drama lovers have another drama to enjoy. In this new Starz series, Monica Raymond plays Jackie Quinones, a National Fisheries Service agent who seduces female tourists by flashing her badge. With so many TV seasons being cut short, it's a relief to find one shot entirely in Before Times. This apocalyptic sci-fi drama returns for its final season to find out what happens to Clark (Eliza Taylor) and crew.
