OnePlus8Pro has amazing X—ray vision - check this out

The OnePlus 8 Pro is a great Android flagship, but OnePlus seems to have included an "X-ray camera" without realizing it; the Galaxy S20 Ultra also has a powerful camera, but it does not offer the following.

This semi-sci-fi feature is courtesy of the OnePlus 8 Pro's Photochrom camera mode, which is usually used to "turn ordinary scenery into surreal scenery," as OnePlus puts it. However, a user on the XDA Developers forum called "combat goofwing" flagged the strange effect caused by the Photochrom mode after discovering that the OnePlus 8 Pro can see through TV remotes.

Max Weinbach of XDA Developers took additional photos proving that the camera can be used to view internal circuitry such as security cameras and VR headsets. Because it operates with a live viewfinder, there is no need to even press the shutter button, making it effectively a pseudo-X-ray scanner, albeit an electronic one, rather than finding broken bones.

It is not entirely clear how this color filter camera is able to do this, but it appears to have something to do with the way the sensor processes infrared light to give the photo a "photochrome" effect.

I tried this on the OnePlus 8 Pro review unit and was surprised by what I found. This is my parents' induction stove, using the phone's regular 48MP camera.

And this was taken with the color filter camera.

In my review of the OnePlus 8 Pro, I was very complimentary about its camera, but wondered what it was for, since many of the effects offered by the color filter sensor can be applied in software. What was unexpected was that the OnePlus 8 Pro could see through certain objects.

However, OnePlus' new top-of-the-line display has some problems. Because of its curvature, it is possible to accidentally tap an object on the edge of the screen. It was also recently discovered that the 120Hz QHD display actually has a strange green tint, although OnePlus has announced a fix.

Overall, the OnePlus 8 Pro is one of the best Android phones of the year due to its tremendous value. Priced at $899, it is $300 less than the Galaxy S20 Plus and $500 less than the Galaxy S20 Ultra. And now we know that this phone is loaded with superpowers.
