Apple Watch 6 Killer features detailed in new Leak

Apple Watch 6 introduces several new mental health features, adding yet another edge to the wearable's advanced wellness capabilities. We already knew this, but now we have some insight into how one of Apple Watch 6's killer tools will work.

Tech YouTuber and Apple leaker John Prosser, on a recent episode of the "Geared Up" podcast hosted by Andrew Edwards, discussed how the upcoming wearable will be able to identify user stress and detect panic attacks before they

Prosser, who is a member of the "Wearables" team, discussed how the next generation of wearables will be able to identify a user's stress and detect panic attacks before they happen.

According to Prosser, the Apple Watch 6 will read "oxygen levels in your blood along with your heart rate" and recognize if you are hyperventilating, even if you are not yet aware.

The Apple Watch 6 can then prompt you to start breathing exercises with Apple's "Breathe" tool.

Prosser's hint relies on rumors that the Apple Watch will include a blood oxygen (Sp02) monitor. Several good smartwatches already use Sp02, giving the wearer insight into the quality of breathing during sleep.

While being notified that one is on the verge of a panic attack may increase anxiety, the information may allow people to be more proactive in quelling panic attacks. At the very least, a warning would help people get out of situations where a panic attack could put them in harm's way, such as while driving.

The Apple Watch already provides assistance in certain emergency situations, but the latest Apple Watch 6 rumors suggest that the company is serious about its efforts to expand its mental health tools.

I am confident that many people would benefit from mental health insights now, given the anxiety caused by the stay-at-home orders of recent months. Major changes may cause anxiety, and difficult situations may create stress.

Hopefully these tools will be realized when the Apple Watch 6 debuts with the iPhone 12 in September or October. Nevertheless, with the watchOS 7 update scheduled for WWDC 2020 next month, we may get our best look yet at what is in store for the Apple Watch's health initiatives.
