Hamilton Disney Plus release date just moved to 7 May

Independence Day Streaming Plans Finalized: 'Hamilton' Coming to Disney Plus Yes, Lin-Manuel Miranda and "The House of Mouse" know we are hungry for new productions to stream.

The production "transports audiences into the world of Broadway shows in a unique and intimate way" and promises to combine "the best elements of live theater, film, and streaming."

Hopefully, this new format will breathe new life into "Hamilton" and make it fresh for experienced theatergoers. As someone who was unable to afford the expensive tickets to the production at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, I reacted with some joy to the news of this release.

Originally, the Hamilton film was slated for release on October 15, 2021. However, since everyone needs more streaming, especially while waiting for "The Mandalorian" Season 2 and "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," this move makes sense worldwide.

Also, given the American history lesson of the film's plot, it can't hurt to release the film on July 3, the eve of America's Independence Day. Hamilton will have the same release date in all regions, so don't worry if you want to see it in the UK or elsewhere.

Disney Chairman Bob Iger (who no longer appears to be stepping down) said in an official press release, "In light of the extraordinary challenges facing our world, this story about leadership, tenacity, hope, love, and the power of people coming together against adversity is both relevant and impactful."

Thomas Cale, who directed the stage production of "Hamilton" and Miranda's "In the Heights," directed this film version, which features the performers who made the play famous. They include Lin-Manuel Miranda as the titular Hamilton, David Diggs as the Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, and Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler.

Disney Plus has become a big place for all things Star Wars these days, but its main offerings seem a bit "less and far between" if you're not looking for children's TV shows.

That begins to change in June: with Avengers: Infinity War (June 25) arriving before Hamilton and Solo: A Star Wars Story (July 9) a week later; in August, the Disney Plus original The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres, followed in October by Season 2 of The Mandalorian; Wandavision is scheduled for this December.
