If you were looking forward to Apple's next tablet or laptop with a mini LED display, I have bad news. These upgraded Macs and iPads will likely have to wait until next year.

AppleInsider reports another investor memo written by trusted Apple forecaster Ming-Chi Kuo, in which Kuo now claims that Apple's new display technology will be seen in early 2021, not this year.

Apple's Mini LED technology is a smaller version of the regular LED display. This allows for brighter, more colorful images and, through the use of "dimming zones," allows for easier control of screen output than regular LED or OLED panels. This new type of display should eventually be cheaper to manufacture and is expected to lower the price of MacBooks and iPads.

Mini LEDs were slated to appear in six new products this year. These included the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the new standard iPad and iPad Mini, the new iMac Pro, the upgraded 16-inch MacBook Pro, and the rumored 14-inch MacBook Pro. The latter model is expected to replace the 13-inch version of Apple's flagship laptop.

Kuo had said that Apple would survive the coronavirus pandemic without needing to delay these products, but he has now revised this prediction. This is based on information that Apple's LED chip suppliers, Epistar and FitTech, are preparing to begin production of mini LED components in the third quarter of this year, with product assembly in the fourth quarter and possibly the first quarter of 2021

However, the company has not yet announced the date of the launch.

Kuo, however, said that this delay should not be too worrisome. He argues that Apple will be using this technology for several years, and once these products debut, investors will see a lot of sales of devices with mini-LED displays in 2021-2022.
