Android11beta has a release date.

Now on Earth 2, we are less than a week away from this year's Google I/O conference. On the real Earth, Google I/O may have been canceled due to a coronavirus outbreak, but a preview of Android 11 is scheduled to take place soon.

According to information posted on Android developer websites, Google is planning an online look at Android 11 next month. Spotted by Android Police, the teaser announcement promises a one-hour session going over the changes planned for Android's next big update. The Android 11 preview will take place on June 3 at 11 a.m. ET (8 a.m. PT).

While the session will almost certainly be aimed at developers, Google is soliciting questions from Android app makers on Twitter using the #AskAndroid hashtag. While these previews are certainly focused on developer tools, there is also a lot of talk about user-oriented features coming to Android later this year.

Even if the Coronavirus outbreak has taken Google I/O off the calendar, the company seems to be on track with its Android 11 schedule. Google has already released three developer previews of Android updates since February, with the latest appearing at the end of April. While these previews are fairly developer-oriented, they gave us some sense of the features that will be included in Android 11, including improved messaging, more refined permissions, and other under-the-hood improvements.

The developer previews are intended to help app makers get their hands on Android 11 updates so they can get ahead of updating their apps to take advantage of the new features and identify problems early in the development process The preview version will be released in June, likely to be a more user-friendly version of Android 11, and a beta version is expected to be released around the same time as the June 3 event. This beta will not be available to everyone, but over the past few years, Google has been making the Android beta available on more devices than just Pixel phones.

We'll keep you on top of Android 11 news and the features you can expect on your Android phone when the final version of the update is released later this summer.
