Google Pixel4a leak reveals benchmark and final design

The Google Pixel 4a leaks continue to arrive. This latest batch appears to confirm key specs such as an all-new punch-hole notch, as well as hint at the phone's performance.

Newly discovered benchmarks (via Notebookcheck) and a Twitter post from a Google executive (via 9to5Google) are two sources of what we're seeing, given that the Pixel 4a will be launching soon. there are likely few surprises left for Google to share.

The "Sunfish," as the Pixel 4a is codenamed, achieved a score of 2,529 in single-core mode and 6,366 in multi-core in benchmarks done on Geekbench 4. This is not a surprising score, comparable to smartphones like the 2019 Xiaomi Mi 9T, which uses the same Snapdragon 730 chip.

The benchmark data also shows already rumored specs such as 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a 5.81-inch OLED display.

Another leak is an otherwise uninteresting Twitter post consisting of screenshots of a recent FitBit achievement by Google's Senior Vice President of Hardware, Rick Osterloh. Some details, however, suggest that he is using the Pixel 4a.

The status bar at the top has a large blank space on the left side, but the icon design indicates that it is still a Pixel phone; all Pixels, including the Pixel 4, use a notch or bezel to accommodate the selfie camera, so Osterloh took this screenshot of a pre-launch Pixel 4a, and since the Twitter image has the same aspect ratio as the rumored Pixel 4a display, the sizes also match.

The Pixel 4a is set to be revealed on May 22, which would normally be around the time Google holds its I/O developer conference. Given the recent increase in leaked information, including a full camera review of the 4a by one site, it seems likely that an announcement will be made before the end of the month.
