"Run for the Roses" will be held today. This is the second time in the 146-year history of the Kentucky Derby that the race has been postponed due to a pandemic (the first was in 1945 at the end of World War II).

The centerpiece of Virtual Kentucky Derby 2020, to be held on May 2, will be the Triple Crown Showdown, in which 13 Triple Crown horses will face off in a computer simulation under the historic twin spires of Churchill Downs.

The Kentucky Derby has been postponed to Saturday, September 5. However, to fill the gap this weekend, NBC Sports and Churchill Downs will host a Kentucky Derby at Home party. That includes "The First Saturday In May: American Pharoah's Run to the Triple Crown".

This is followed by a Triple Crown horse showdown simulation, a virtual race created by Inspired Entertainment that uses data algorithms, including historical handicapping information for each horse, to determine each horse's potential finishing position probabilities.

Fans can "bet" on the winner by visiting KentuckyDerby.com, with their wagers going toward COVID-19's relief efforts. Churchill Downs has pledged to match up to $1 million in donations for the Team Kentucky Fund and Direct Relief. The fund is for backside workers whose livelihoods have been affected by COVID-19 and to ensure essential care for the horses throughout the pandemic.
