Now that the iPhone SE 2020 has launched, all eyes are on Google to see if the upcoming Pixel 4a can top Apple's lower-priced version. A new report from a German tech site suggests that the new Pixel could launch at the end of next month.

May 22 may be the day the Pixel 4a arrives on European carriers, according to a Caschys Blog article that says it has seen internal documents from network Vodafone.

If that timeframe is true, Google may announce the Pixel 4a a few days earlier, i.e., in mid-May. This could fall within the planned dates of the now-canceled Google I/O developer conference, originally scheduled for May 12-14.

The Pixel 4a will likely be sold unlocked as well as through carriers, given that last year's Pixel 3a was sold among lesser-known service providers such as Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Google Fi. It is expected to cost $399, the same as last year's Pixel 3a and the new iPhone SE.

Like the iPhone SE, the Pixel 4a will almost certainly have only one camera lens on the back, but its camera should provide photo quality comparable to Google's flagship Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. unlike the iPhone SE, Pixel 4a should offer a night mode on its camera, which is a big advantage.

The Pixel 4a should also have an OLED display like its predecessor. However, the screen size should be larger, from 5.6" to 5.8" this time. iPhone SE has a smaller 4.7" display. It is also expected to have a headphone jack, which is a rarity these days.

Internally, there are rumors that Qualcomm's Snapdragon 730 processor will power the device, and buyers may be able to upgrade from the base 64GB to 128GB of storage, which was not an option on the Pixel 3a. The Snapdragon 730 is a mid-tier CPU that is not as fast as the A13 Bionic used by the iPhone SE, but it should provide enough power for most users, and thanks to some efficiency improvements, it may even make the Pixel 4a's charge last longer
